Introduction

Barges are a crucial link in modern multimodal transportation systems, playing a particularly important role in inland waterway transport. They connect ports, factories, and large ocean-going vessels, undertaking the "last mile" or "hub-to-point" distribution and collection tasks, effectively alleviating pressure on land transportation.

The most crucial parameters for cargo barges
Length Overall The typical length is 30 to over 100 meters, with inland waterway sectional barges commonly measuring 60-90 meters
Breadth Typically 9 to 20 meters or more, commonly 10-15 meters
Depth Typically it ranges from 1.5 meters to 4 meters
Design Draft Typically ranging from 1.5 to 4.5 meters, inland waterway barges have a shallow draft

Core Characteristics

(1)Lack of Self-Propulsion: The vast majority of barges do not have their own main propulsion system and cannot sail independently.

(2)Reliance on Towing or Pushing: They require towing by a tugboat or pushing by a push boat (forming a "push-tow fleet") to move.

(3)Flat Bottom and Shallow Draft: The flat bottom and shallow draft make them particularly suitable for navigation in inland waterways, coastal areas, and harbors, allowing them to reach shallow areas inaccessible to deep-draft vessels.

(4)Large Loading Capacity: The design focuses on maximizing cargo volume, with a simple hull structure and a rectangular cargo hold.

Precautions

Once the barge operation begins, the following stages require the utmost vigilance throughout:

(1) Vessel movement and berthing: Operations must be extremely slow and steady. When the tugboat is towing the barge, sharp turns should be avoided. When the two vessels are berthing alongside each other, they must make gentle contact with sufficient cushioning from fenders.

(2) Mooring operations: This is a high-risk stage. Mooring lines must be under balanced tension and adjusted promptly according to the loading and unloading progress, tidal changes, and wind and wave conditions to prevent breakage due to excessive tension or vessel displacement due to insufficient tension.

(3) Cargo handling monitoring: During loading and unloading, the vessel's transverse and longitudinal angles must be continuously monitored. Any abnormal tilting requires immediate suspension of operations to investigate the cause and make adjustments.

Q&A

Q: How long is the equipment production cycle? Do you support urgent orders?
